Dementia drugs for COPD-related cognitive decline? - new drugs for copd
My father is 83, with advanced features of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It uses supplemental oxygen for most of the time. Last year, a neurologist diagnosed him "mild cognitive impairment." The doctor thinks it could be related to COPD, as the blood of my father are less than ideal levels of oxygen, so their brain cells can not obtain oxygen as they need. I think this is about as hypoxia (oxygen deficiency in comparison to) the complete absence of oxygen.
I researched information on COPD-related mental decline, and it is certainly true. My question is how well medications dementia (eg workplace) AD in such a case? The doctor prescribed drugs Aricept (Alzheimer's classic). What promise nothing said, but it's worth a try.
I do not know if it will help. I know there are harder drugs for Alzheimer's Namenda be one. If someone familiar with EPOC / cognitive impairment, hypoxemia, I know more. My father would say that it is even worse recently. I wonder if he has an age-related dementia summit of COPD?
